A challenging final on the IJburg Bay
One of the last new construction projects on the IJburg Bay in Amsterdam is taking shape: Jonas, a name that refers to the biblical story of Jonas and the whale. The unusual residential building will be realised by De Boom Bouw, commissioned by Ballast Nedam West. Safe is providing the engineering, delivery and assembly of all support structures.
Jonas consists of 273 rental and owner-occupied houses, a commercial plinth and a parking basement. Special indeed, as it will be one of the first residential buildings in the Netherlands with the BREEAM Outstanding certificate.
Impressive atrium
For Safe, the project comprises almost 30,000m2 of floor area to be supported, consisting of wide slab, insitu and precast. Support heights rise to over 10 metres and line loads to some 250 kN/m1. One of the biggest challenges in this project is found in the 'belly' of the whale: the Canyon. This imposing atrium in the middle of the building extends over all floors. No two floor edges of the Canyon are the same. Our engineers and mechanics can show their very best side here!
